The Twin Issues of Losing Weight: Being Fat Causes Depression

The Problem Is Not Just Physical, It’s Also Psychological!

Depression is such a devastating force that can tear up an individual into pieces. The severity of the damage it can bring upon a person may cause him/her to ultimately drown into a deep sinkhole of emotional wreckage.

This psychological phenomenon can be attributed to quite a number of factors. Some of these factors are physiological in nature like imbalance of hormonal or chemical secretions in the body. Our day-to-day struggles in life like an unbearable job pressure can also take its toll on a person’s state of mind. Recurring images caused by a long repressed trauma can also create emotional difficulties especially those who do not have an effective coping mechanism.

Most of the time depression stems from issues concerning self-confidence or self-esteem. The lack of positive view of oneself can be unimaginably destructive because the destruction emanates from within like an implosion of some sort. People having problems dealing with their undesirable weight can bring them into a brink of desolation. Being “fat” has become notoriously synonymous with anything undesirable-”the sum of all the ugliness in this world” combined. They form a negative perception of themselves which hinders them from seeing their real self-worth. When this feeling of extremely low self-esteem recurs periodically, it’ll push them to develop depression.
