The social stigma associated with being obese is making people try all possible ways to get rid of excessive fat. You will find a variety of methods being used for weight loss, but only few of these methods are effective; and even fewer are safe to use. However, what you need to understand is that if you attention to what you eat, you are going to take control of your weight loss efforts. What it means is that you should know whether a certain food is going to help you lose weight or is it going to ruin everything.
In other words, you need to be aware of how nutritious a food is. If you know about nutrients and eat right foods, there is no reason why you cannot lose weight and keep it off forever. Not only should you be eating nutritious food but you should also know what is the best in that group.
Take for example the vegetables. Everyone knows how beneficial it is to eat vegetables, but which one to eat is the burning question. For vegetables which have protective and healing vitamins as well as roughage to help the body eliminate waste and toxins, some of the best are asparagus, broccoli, salad greens like lettuce and rocket leaves and spinach. Other good choices are tomatoes which go with every kind of salad or sandwich, kales, all kinds of peppers whether yellow, green or red, onions, mushrooms, zucchini and cucumbers which are also easily added onto salads and sandwiches. The thing to remember with vegetables is that a little oil does no harm, either in form of a low fat dressing that has some, stir frying, sautéing or baking and adding some oil on it. Just use healthy oil like olive oil or olive oil spreads.
For protein, egg whites, chicken with the skin off to remove the fat, salmon, turkey and lean pork are good choices. Top round steak, flank steak and lean game meats like bison and buffalo are also good choices as well as trout. The key is in preparation which should use a minimum of oil. This means grilling, baking or steaming rather than frying. Also use ground forms of lean meat for healthy sandwiches, salads and burgers.
Fruits are also important. Apples with pectin that helps bind fat so that it is eliminated, grapefruit, blueberries, strawberries and citrus fruits like oranges and lemon are ideal. Cantaloupe melons, peaches, bananas, grapes and pineapples are also filling and full of fiber. They are best taken whole for the fiber but for juice, squeeze it yourself and use honey or just a little sugar to sweeten.
Other items to include are dairy for the protein and calcium. Just choose low fat varieties and plain milk rather than flavored. The same goes for dairy products like yoghurt and low fat cheese like cottage cheese.
Also, give yourself a break and enjoy treats like some chocolate or slice of
pizza say once a week. Feeling deprived will make you crave something more but knowing you can have them will help you keep going and keep dropping those pounds or keep them off.
